E-Mail Setup for Outlook Express



Open Microsoft Outlook Express.

Select Tools from the menu options bar. Then select the Accounts... option.

 

You will be presented with the Internet Accounts window. Select the Mail tab to see all of the email accounts you have configured in Outlook Express.

Next, click the Add button and then select Mail from the context menu that appears.

 

A dialog box entitled Internet Connection Wizard will appear. Input your name into the Dispaly Name text box: Your Name (ex. Bill Cyrus)

When finished, select the Next button to continue to the next screen.

 

On the next screen, enter your address into the Email Address text box as follows: username@domain.com (ex. billcyrus@cyrusproducts.com) *

When finished, select the Next button to continue to the next screen.

On the next screen, you are asked questions about your Incoming Mail Server. Follow the instructions below to complete this step:

1. Select POP3 as your incoming mail server from the drop down box.

2. Enter your Incoming Mail (POP3) Server as: mail.sohologics.com.

3. Enter your Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server as: mail.sohologics.com.

When finished, select the Next button to continue to the next screen.

 

On the next screen, you are asked questions concerning your POP3 email user account. Follow the instructions below to complete this step:

1. Enter your user name into the text box labeled Account Name: username (ex. billcyrus) *

2. Enter your password into the text box labeled Password: password (ex. sillygoose) *

3. If you would like Outlook Express to remember your password, select the Remember Password checkbox.

When finished, select the Next button to continue to the next screen.

You are now finished with the Internet Connection Wizard dialog box. Select Finish to continue.

 

You will now have the Internet Accounts window present on your screen. Select the email account you just created and then click the Properties button on the left to continue.

 

A dialog box entitled [account name] Properites will appear and you will start on the General tab. Take this time to accomplish the follow tasks:

1. Enter a name in the first text box for this account. You can name your account anything you would like.

2. Ensure that your Name is entered correctly.

3. Enter your company name into the Organization text box.

4. You should not have to change your E-mail Address.

5. Do not enter a Reply Address.

6. Ensure that the checkbox Include this account when receiving and synchronizing is checked.

 

Next, select the Servers tab. Follow the below instructions to complete this step:

1. Ensure that your incoming mail server is a POP3 server.

2. Ensure that your Incoming Mail (POP3) is set to mail.sohologics.com.

3. Ensure that your Outgoing Mail (SMTP) is set to mail.sohologics.com.

4. Ensure that your username is set correctly: username (ex. billcyrus) *

5. Ensure that your password is entered: password (ex. sillygoose) *

6. Ensure that the Remember Password box is checked if you want your password saved in Outlook Express.

7. Check the box entitled My Server Requires Authentication.

When finished, select the Settings.. button to continue to the next screen.

You will be presented with a dialog entitled Outgoing Mail Server. Follow the below instructions to complete this step:

1. Select the Log on using radio box.

2. Enter your Account Name as: username@sohologics.com (ex. billcyrus@sohologics.com) *

This must have sohologics.com after the @ sign for email to send properly. This is due to our server running SMTP Authentication.

3. Enter your Password as: password (ex. sillygoose) *

4. Check the box entitled Remember Password if you would like Outlook Express to remember it.

When finished, select the OK button to return to the account properties window.

:: OPTIONAL ::

On the mail account Properties dialog, select the Advanced tab. The below instructional are optional and are not needed to enable your email account. Read below for these optional instructions:

1. If you would like to use secure (SSL Encrypted) POP3, select the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) checkbox under Incoming Server (POP3). **

2. If you would like to use secure (SSL Encrypted) SMTP, select the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) checkbox under Outgoing Server (SMTP). **

3. If you experience problems with POP3 or SMTP timeouts while downloading email, you can adjust the Server Timeouts slider towards the right to increase the time that Outlook waits before timing out on Send and Receive. ***

When finished, select the Apply button if available and then select the OK button to continue.

** We recommend enabling these two options if you use insecure networks or wireless (WiFi) internet on your computer system. This will protect your password and email transmissions from crackers using sniffing software.

*** We recommend setting this option to 3 minutes if you are connecting to the server with through a dial-up account. This will prevent Outlook from timing out too quickly when sending large emails.

 

This E-mail Accounts screen shows all of the configured email accounts that Outlook Express can use to Send and Receive messages.

You can add additional accounts if you wish.

* If these additional accounts are on our servers, select the Add button and then select Mail Account. Scroll up toward the top of this document and follow the instructions again.

* If your account is with another Internet Service Provider (ISP), please consult their website or helpdesk for instructions. Most ISPs will require a slightly different setup.

If you have multiple accounts and wish to make an account the default account to send mail from, select it in this window and click the Set as Default button to set the account as the default.

You are now finished with the email setup. Click the Close button to return to your Inbox..

 

To check for new messages on the server, you can click the Send/Recv toolbar button towards the top center of your Outlook Express email client. We recommend checking it the first time to ensure your account has been setup ok.

 

Once clicked, the Outlook Express Send/Receive Progress window will appear. You can select the Details button if you would like to watch what it does (as shown below).

You can also click the Thumbnail icon (bottom right) if you would like to have this box stay on your screen after it has finished checking for new mail. If this button is selected, you will have to manually hit the Close button when finished.

If you receive any error messages, try going back to the top of this document and check your E-mail Account settings to ensure you set up your account properly. If you continue to have trouble, have your username and other information ready and give us a call.
