Catch the Most from Email

Category: 01:01

By: Christy Osborne

Have you ever received an email with graphics that didn't load? How irritating! Are you looking at one right now? This article will familiarize you with options you have to view email that contains graphics.

Have you ever received those frustrating emails with little red X’s in place of pictures in emails? Are you also unable to view the graphics included in this helpful SOHO Logics newsletter? Well, you no longer have to tear out your hair over those irritating red Xs that replace vital photos and links.

What causes my images to not appear?

Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 blocks image downloads from the Internet to protect your computer and most importantly your privacy from junk e-mail senders. As a configured default, this helps you guard your privacy in a world overrun with pesky spam.

How can I see my Images?

To view all blocked images in the email:

  1. Click the banner, or InfoBar, near the top of an open e-mail message, appointment, contact, or task at the top of the message.
  2. Click Download Pictures.

To view a single blocked image in the message:

  1. Right-click the area with the red X placeholder.
  2. Then, on the shortcut menu, click Download Pictures.

To change the default so that Outlook doesn't block images in all messages:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Under Download Pictures, click Change Automatic Download Settings.
  4. Clear the Don't download pictures or other content automatically in HTML e-mail check box.

It is worth mentioning that disabling image blocking will allow spammers to track the viewing of spam messages which may result in additional spam in the future.

The Best Solution

Want to be the cool kid on the block with the new, shiny toy? Then download a free version of Mozilla Thunderbird for the smartest email experience at www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/.

Already a cool kid? Then, to unblock images in Mozilla Thunderbird:

  1. Open the email containing the blocked images.
  2. Click the Show Images button to display the images in the message.

To change the default so that Mozilla Thunderbird doesn’t block images in all messages:

  1. Click Tools, and then Options.
  2. Within the Options Window, select the Privacy icon
  3. Then, select the General tab
  4. Next, uncheck both the “Block loading of remote images in mail messages” and the "Block JavaScript in mail messages” boxes.

It is worth mentioning that disabling image blocking will allow spammers to track the viewing of spam messages which may result in additional spam in the future.
